Short project description

This project is used in company providing wide variety of other building products to meet the needs of its local customers, which have divisions in many states. It consists of three main components: Pricing Manager, Report Manager and Security Manager. The application was developed using Visual Basic 6.0, which allows building projects undemanding to resources.

The project is built using 3 tiered architecture. User interface helps users to manage data more easily; all business processes are implemented in libraries, which enables to build more flexible applications and they can be used from another programs with the same business logic (such as Report Manager); DBMS is the MS SQL Server 2000, which enables to build reliable applications using transactions and integrated security.

Pricing Manager
This is the most important part of the project. It helps to maintain product prices, discounts, rebates and labor costs. Company can define different prices for some products (or group of products, united by some common attributes) in one division and it can differ from the same products (or groups of products) in other divisions. Here is a possibility to calculate prices for new products automatically, recalculate prices for existing products, view history of changes and so on. Project has user-friendly interface and number of easy-to-use wizards, which help to execute number of other functions used in such companies.

Report Manager
This component is the add-in for Pricing Manager. Report Manager allows users to provide analysis and make decisions based on information represented in different reports. Here you can prepare reports with different types and printouts. These reports can have the same layout but differ by data loaded, which are defined using report parameters. Here also is a possibility to create reports using Report Builder, which is integrated into Report Manager in order to enable users design reports easily.

Security Manager
This tool allows to provide functional and data security. It is based on user groups and security functions. In Security Manager security administrator can refer users to some groups, assign functions to them etc. According to the set of functions assigned to user, some menu items in Pricing Manager and Report Manager can be seen and user can have access to change some data etc.
